Starting kindergarten is an exciting milestone for young children as they embark on their schooling journey. The first term is all about settling in—getting used to new routines, making friends and becoming familiar with the classroom environment. While it can be a big adjustment, the children quickly began to grow in confidence as they explored, learned through play and developed positive relationships with their teachers and peers. In Term One at Dayboro Community Kindy the children participated in a range of fun-filled and enriching incursions, excursions and experiences.
The Great Barrier Reef Puppet Show was a fun and engaging performance designed to teach the children the importance of sustainability and caring for the environment. Through colourful characters like curious trumpet fish, graceful seahorses, wise green sea turtles and cheeky dolphins, the show brought the underwater world to life while delivering powerful messages about protecting marine life and reducing pollution. With songs, storytelling and interactive moments, children learned how their everyday actions—like recycling, conserving water and saying no to plastic—can make a big difference in preserving the reef and our planet for future generations.
The children eagerly participated in Clean Up Australia Day, proudly donning gloves and gathering rubbish as they worked together to clean up their local parks and playgrounds. With smiles on their faces and a strong sense of purpose, they collected litter, sorted recyclables and learned firsthand the impact of waste on the environment. The day not only empowered them to take action but also initiated important conversations about caring for nature, reducing waste and being responsible stewards of the planet.
The classroom was filled with excitement and curiosity as the children took part in the reptile show, where they had the chance to see and even gently touch a variety of fascinating creatures like snakes and lizards. With wide eyes and eager questions, they learned about the unique features, habitats, diets and behaviours of these cold-blooded creatures. The show sparked a sense of wonder and respect for wildlife, teaching the children the importance of protecting reptiles and their environments, while also helping them overcome fears and appreciate the beauty and diversity of nature.
To conclude the term, the children celebrated with a range of fun Easter activities, filling the week with laughter, creativity and excitement. They enjoyed decorating easter cookies, making festive crafts and joining in on an energetic Easter egg hunt around the playground. The highlight of the week was a special visit from the Easter Bunny, who brought smiles and a basket full of surprises. It was a joyful and memorable way to wrap up the term, leaving the children with happy hearts and a sweet start to their holidays.
